The Ganges Fan is the largest underwater accumulation of sediment on Earth.

Ganges Fan , Indian RiverThe Ganges Fan is the largest underwater accumulation of sediment on Earth. Material is carried from the mouth of the Ganges Delta in Bangladesh across a series of underwater canyons; some of these sediments are more than 1,500 miles or 2,414km in length. The sediment material is then carried along the floor of the Bay of Bengal up to 30 degrees latitude from where it began its journey. The fan is now being explored as a possible source of fossil fuels for the nearby developing nations.
