Pauri, Uttarakhand

Pauri is a city and a municipal board in Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand state in India. Pauri is the headquarters of the Pauri Garhwal district and the Garhwal division. Pauri perched at an elevation of 1,772 meters on the northern slopes of Kandoliya hills, bestows panoramic views of the enclosed lofty Himalayan ranges and the verdant dense forests. It is a paradise of ecstasy and an extraordinary spot with wide beautiful valleys, and great scenic views. It is a perfect exotic spot for spending vacations. Winter of Pauri is chilling when the whole of Pauri is dressed in white sheets of snow. Pauri Garhwal is encircled by the districts of Chamoli, Almora, Nainital, Bijnor, Haridwar, Dehradun, Rudraprayag and Tehri Garhwal. Pauri is an enchanting place and offers breathtaking scenic views of the surrounding Himalayan mountain ranges.

Places to Visit in and around Pauri
With the promises of cryptic valleys, crisscross lanes and lush greens, Pauri is a perfect exotic spot for spending vacations. Often dressed in white snow in winter, Pauri is an enchanting place with spectacular locales.

Kandoliya
This temple is dedicated to Lord Kandoliya, a folk deity located on the Lansdowne road. This incredible temple is located midst dense forests and one can get a spectacular view of the Himalayan peaks and Gangwarsyun valley. It is located at a distance of 1km from Pauri, the main town.

Chaukhamba Viewpoint
From here, one can get a splendid panoramic view of the Idwal valley and Chaukhamba peak.

Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev
This is an ancient temple set up in the 8th century, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located amidst thick abundant forest of deodar, it offers fantastic 300km Himalayan panoramic views. According to legends, it is believed that Lord Shiva worshipped Yama here. Visit to this temple gives a soothing and peaceful feeling to the minds.

Khirsu
The snow capped mountains of Khirsoo offers a fine view of the central Himalayas. From here, one gets to see clear view of the named and unnamed peaks. It is located at a distance of 19km from Pauri at an elevation of 1,805 meters midst the thick oak, deodar trees and apple orchards. The ancient temple of Ghandiyal Devta is worth a visit.

Laxmi Narayan Temple
This is a place of major attraction and is an important place of worship in Pauri. It is located nearby the city bus stand.

Bhuvaneshwari Devi Temple
This place is located nearby the town of Pauri. Devotees visit this place in large numbers and offer animal sacrifice of goats and buffaloes on various occasions to please deity.

Jwalpa Devi Temple
This place lies on the main Pauri Kotdwar road. During the spiritual occasion of Navratri, special fair and festivals is held here for which many devotees visit this place.

Tara kund
This place is situated at an altitude of 2,200 meters, midst lofty mountains in the Chariserh development area. The charming site has a small lake and an ancient temple.

Siddhibali Temple
This is a renowned temple of Lord Hanuman.

Durga Devi Temple
It is one of the significant shrines of the town, situated near Duggada on Kotdwar-Pauri road.

Ransi
It is located at a distance of 2.5 km from the town, at an altitude of 2132 meters. Ransi is a beautiful picnic spot. This is also a famous stadium where games and tournaments are organized frequently.

Ulkha Garhi
It is located on Pauri-Khirsoo motor road. This location affords a superb view of the splendid undulating mountains and valleys at an altitude of 1900 meters.

Doodhatoli
Doodhatoli situated at an altitude of 3,100meters is enclosed with thick forests. This is one of the most scenic places located in a beautiful backdrop commanding a panoramic view of the snow clad Himalayan ranges and the surroundings. Maharishi Chyawan resided in his ashram, which was piled on the Doodhatoli hills. He was a well-regarded personality known for his medicines prepared out of herbs and roots. The health product Chyawanprash manufactured by various leading companies is named after the illustrious Rishi Chyawan.

Adwani
It is an idyllic spot surrounded by lush green forests far away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The floral wealth and the cold breeze coming from Himalayas are some of the features that enhance the quality of Adwani. There is a forest house located in Adwani where one can take a halt.

By Air
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun located at a distance of 155km via Rishikesh-Srinagar.

By Railways
The nearest railway station ahead is at Kotdwar at a distance of 108km.

By Road
Pauri is well connected to major cities namely Dehradun, Rishikesh, Kotdwar and some other cities of the region.
