Established in 1967, Gargi College is a premier college for women located at South Campus of Delhi University. Due to its strategic location on the Siri Fort Road of South Delhi, the exquisite Siri Fort can be seen from the playground of the college. It offers education in various disciplines of Arts, Humanities, Science, Commerce, and Education. It was founded with a noble mission of making students a competent and efficient human being.

Gargi College has accomplished several achievements. In the years 2004-2005, the prestigious organisation United Grants Commission (UGC) had awarded this college with Potential for Excellence grant. It is one of the two colleges which were chosen mainly for their holistic teaching and also due to their excellent record of performance in the field of academics and other aspects also. This award also acknowledges the initiatives that Gargi College is taking in advanced research works, social awareness projects and other events undertaken by the college authorities.

In the recent times 9 departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology, Zoology and the Women`s Development Centre are engaged in advancing experimentation in the undergraduate programs, using modern methods of learning and appraisal.

Gargi College constitutes of eighteen departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Elementary Education, English, German, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Microbiology, Philosophy, Physical Education, Physics, Political Science Psychology, Sanskrit and Zoology.

Gargi College offers courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Add on courses also have drawn the attention of scholars and students. B.A. Hons. in Business Economics has been recently introduced at Gargi College.

The whole course can be divided into three sections: Academic Enrichment Programmes, Career Intensive Courses, Outsourced Courses. Courses like Education for Special Children, Education for Peace Building, Introduction to Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Historical Tourism Professional Ethics course, Theatre Workshop, Vedic Mathematics, Academic Enrichment Programmes fall under the first section. Career Intensive Courses include Diploma in Banking and Financial Services, Diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communication, Counselling Skills, Tally Accounting Programme, Certificate & Diploma Courses in Foreign Languages, CPT (Common Professional Test).

Outsourced Courses are held at EMPI City Centre and IGNOU, Gargi College. At EMPI City Centre, students pursue courses like Financial Technical Analysis, Research and Analytics Training, Fundamental Financial Analysis, Stock Market Operations, NCFM Preparation, Destination & Travel Management, Airlines and Travel Agents Personnel, Air Travel, Fares and Ticketing, English Proficiency, Personality Development (Pace-Up), Corporate Communication, Web Designing, Graphic Designing, Video Editing and Animation. The IGNOU Centre is apt for those who want to pursue education in distance educational mode. Classes are held here every Sunday.

Gargi College has a well-stocked library, which is wholly computerised. It has a huge collection of books on various subjects that facilitates the students in excelling in their fields of study. In the main library section the total number of books has showed a counting of approximately 60,469. Reference section is widely visited by the students where they can spend time reading books. It is quite spacious and huge with excellent seating arrangements. For reference one can go through multitudes of national and international journals that are stocked here. Its collection of fictional books is equally good. The library also has a plethora of books on general knowledge. The efficient library staffs also can guide the readers in every possible matters related to books and library service.

The laboratories of Gargi College are well equipped and spacious. Departments like Botany, Chemistry, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics. Psychology and Zoology departments have their own laboratories where one can witness the students working hard with full concentration and devotion. Faculty conducts research works in Physics and Botany laboratories. Above all a special mention of the Centralised Computer Laboratory which train up the students and increase their computer skills.

Gargi College houses an active Placement Cell that provides various facilities to its students like career counselling and also provide several information on higher and specialised education and campus interviews and placements. Every year several schools, multinational companies and other organisations like banks, insurance companies, event management companies, provide good placement options to bright and talented students.

Apart from these special arrangements are made for recreation of students of Gargi College. Gargi café is the best place to hang out. Students have their own common room named Retreat where they pass time at ease, relaxing , chattering and also sharing thoughts with the senior students.

Apart from academics, special attention has been bestowed upon the extra curricular activities. College Magazine & Newsletters are the forum where the students can nurture their creative skills.

The magazine of Gargi College is called Logos. To encourage students special prizes are awarded for designing Best Cover and Best Articles in languages like English, Hindi and Sanskrit. Besides this magazine, newsletters also brought out by students. These include `The Oracle` -monthly newsletter of Humanities and Social Sciences, `Manthan`-History newsletter, `Demos`-Political Science newsletter, `Samanvay`-Psychology newsletter `ComAscent` - Commerce newsletter and `Eureka`- the mini Science Journal`.

Sports has been given due emphasis in the college. There is a huge playground where students play various games like Lawn Tennis, Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball and Athletics. Sports equipments also are provided to the students. One can enjoy indoor gaming in the recreation room that is built within the premises of Gargi College. The Department of Physical Education organises coaching sessions in several games and also provides scope to the students to take part in competitions.

The Students` Council of Gargi College has been formed in order to inculcate democratic values amongst the students. The Alumni Association too facilitates communication amongst the alma mater.

With the objective of infusing the spirit of social work, various centers have been developed by the authorities of Gargi College. `Merit Scholarship Scheme` has been introduced to provide financial help to the deserving students of SC/ST/OBC/Minority communities. National Cadet Corps (NCC), Women`s Development Centre, Gargi Extension Service or G.E.S. (Gargi`s NSS Unit) testify this righteous work that Gargi College has undertaken.
