
Sadhana Sargam has been regarded as one amongst the top playback singers of Indian film industry. She is originally named as Sadhana Ghanekar. Like many other singers she has also sung songs in a number of Indian languages. Today she has been considered as the `most gifted versatile singers who can sing any type of songs`. Sadhana Sargam has also received training in Indian classical music.

Sadhana Sargam was born to a Maharashtrian Chitpavan Bhramin family on 14th March.. Her mother Mrs. Neelatai Ghanekar gave her the initial training in Indian classical music. Afterwards, she fetched the honor of being trained by the legendary classicist Pandit Jasraj. Sadhana Sargam has performed in many live concerts and most of the time with A.R.Rahman.
Acknowledging her talent Sadhana Sargam has been conferred many accolades. Most importantly one of them is the Indian national award that was given to her as the best female playback singer in the year 2002 for a Tamil song "Pattu Solli" from the movie Azhagi, composed by Ilayaraja. By achieving this honor she has bagged the honor of being the only singer who is not from south India but won an Indian national award for singing a South Indian language song.
Apart from these, Sadhana Sargam along with other singers participated in a classical concert. This concert was organized on the auspicious occasion of Mangeshkar`s 100th birthday celebrations. After her performance she has earned the acclaimation from Hirudhayanath Mangeshkar for her rendering the Hindustani classicals. Other than Hindustani classical music, Sadhana Sargam has also received plaudits because of her contribution to devotinal music. She has been considered to be the most salient forces in accompaniment with Pandit Jasraj and Jagjit Singh to hold on this form of music live.
When Sadhana Sargam was young her voice at high octaves was believed to be alike thereto of Lata Mangeshkar. Her low octave voice was believed to be alike thereto of Asha Bhosle. But eventually Sargam explicated her own trenchant style as time passed.
"Pehla Nasha" from the film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, "Chupke Se" from the film Saathiya, and "Snehidhane" from the film Alaipayuthey, which is also the original version of "Chupke Se" in Tamil are her all time favourite. Presently she is busy with the Tamil film industry. She has also bagged the honor of recording maximum number of songs in Tamil music field. In Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, she has been regarded as the most popular singer. She has recorded many songs in Hindi, Tamil, or Telugu songs with the music directors Ilayaraja and A. R. Rahman. Sadhana Sargam has also lent her voice in an international production `Warriors of Heaven and Earth`. She sang the song under the direction of A. R. Rahman.
