Lucky AliLucky Ali was born on 9th September 1958 as Maqsood Mehmood Ali. This Indian singer-cum-composer has also experimented with acting in Bollywood. He has created a unique `soulful but strikingly simple ballad-style` of singing in his own right. He was second of the eight children born to notable Bollywood comedian, Mehmood and mother Madhuri, who was a Bengali and the sister of celebrated Indian actress of the 1960s - Meena Kumari. Lucky Ali did his formal education from Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, Hampton Court Convent School in Mussoorie, St. George`s College (Mussoorie) and St. Bishop Cottons Boys School, Bengaluru.

Lucky Ali firstly married Masooma, a Hindu who later converted to Islam. She has also acted in Lucky Ali`s video O Sanam from his first album Sunoh. From his first wife`, he has two children Tasmia and Ta`awwuz. He married for the second time, Inaya whose maiden name is Anaida with whom he has two children Sara and Raiyan. Career of Lucky Ali
`Nobody Loves Me` was Lucky Ali`s first composition. It was a three-chord lament. At the affectionate age of 13 years, Lucky Ali was gifted with a guitar. He indoctrinated himself to play it. With the soulful album `Sunoh` Lucky made his debut in the Indian pop market. Slowly, he established himself in the charted pop territory. Sunoh, his album won many top honours in Indian music awards. At the 1996 Screen Awards he won the Best Pop Male Vocalist and the Channel [V] Viewers Choice Award in the year1997. For 60 long weeks, this stayed on the MTV Asia Charts. The song O Sanam from this album has been regarded as the best indi-pop song ever.

Sifar, Lucky Ali`s next album did not create that much ripple like Sunoh but it received acclamation for its lyrics, music and vocals. The speciality of Lucky Ali`s voice is his distinctive musical style and his husky voice. Aks and Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai are his third and fourth albums respectively. Lucky Ali has also bagged the honour of singing the song "Anjaani Raahon Mein" from the album "Meri Jaan Hindustan". It was considered to immortalize 50 years of Indian Independence in 1997. The video of this song was directed by Mani Shankar, and featured Lucky Ali as a young urban man `roaming the Indian countryside, trying to discover new meaning to life`.

With the song "Nasha Nasha" from the film Dushman Duniya Ka, Lucky Ali started with playback singing. The film was directed by his father Mehmood and Manzoor Ali; his brother played the lead role in the movie. Lucky next sang in Hrithik Roshan`s debut movie `Kaho na Pyaar Hai` Na tum jaano na hum and Ek pal ka jeena. The songs were declared big hits and, fetched him the Filmfare award (best male playback singer) for Na tum jaano na hum. He has also tried his luck as an actor. Sanjay Gupta`s Kaante was his first commercially successful Bollywood movie, where he brushed shoulders with legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Sunjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty.

Then onwards Lucky has acted in Shyam Benegal `s `Trikaal.` In the movie he played the role of Erasmo, who is the young Portuguese doctor who comes home to get married. `Discovery of India` was the second film, where he worked with Shyam Benegal once more, where he played the role of Ashoka`s brother Tissa, who played instrumental role in drawing him towards the path of non-violence. Lucky Ali also play-acted in the TV serial, `Zara Hatke.` He also acted in the Bollywood musical `Sur`, where he has played the role of a music teacher, with complex emotions. He won accolades for this movie from the film fraternity.
