Kalakkad is the name of a panchayat town, which is located in Tirunelveli district of the state of Tamil Nadu.

Various towns and cities have flourished in various states of India. In case of Tamil Nadu also the same phenomenon is applicable. Amongst several towns one distinguishes the significance of Kalakkad. In fact it is an example of a panchayat town , lying in the district of Tirunelveli of the same state of the country.

Since Kalakkad town`s average literacy rate constitutes 77 %, which is even higher than that of India affirms that development has occurred in Kalakkad. The average literacy rate of Indian subcontinent has been measured to be 59.5 %. On individual basis, both male and female literacy rates also are also quite high. Thus 82 % and 73 % are male and female literacy rates of Kalakkad respectively. In Kalakkad town, children who are below six years of age constitute 11 % of the total population.
