University of Pune
University of Pune is situated at northwestern part of Pune. It was set up in the year 1949 by the Poona University Act, 1948.

University of PuneUniversity of Pune was previously known as University of Poona. It caters the educational needs of the people of five districts - Pune, Ahmednagar, Nashik, Dhule and Jalgaon. There are 269 affiliated colleges of the University.

It has 46 departments including the departments of English, Economics, Marathi, Geography, Philosophy, Psychology Politics & Public Administration, Sanskrit, History, Sociology, Botany, Zoology, Environment Science, Anthropology, Geology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Statistics, Electronics, Atmospheric and Space Sciences, Library and Information Sciences, Management Sciences, Communication Studies, Law. There are several recognised research centres of the University including Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, National Chemical Laboratory, Deccan College National Institute of Virology, Centre For Cell Science.

Vidyavani is a community radio that is operated by the University. The programs are focused on various departments on the Pune University, various students` welfare schemes of the University, information about exams and results and activities of the University.
