Kannada University is located at the historical town Hampi.It was established in the year 1991. The campus of Kannada University occupies 700 acres of land. The University focuses on the literature ,culture ,tradition of Karnataka as well as Kannada language and literature.

The University has three sections - Administrative section , Academic section and Publication section.The University offers M.A . Phd in Kannada literature and folklore Bachelor degree in Fine Arts, Music and diploma in Sculpture and Music.Cirtificate courses in Kannada languages are alos conducted in the University.The University has four centers namely the School of Social Sciences, the School of Languages Sciences, the School of Fine Arts and the School of Sciences where the courses and research works are conducted. The University is going to start postgraduate diploma courses in tourism and culture, Karnataka studies, folk arts, women`s studies, archaeology Dalit culture and theatre training. The University regularly arranges seminars, conferences, workshops and discussions in collaboration with other institutions.
