Indian squill, with its polished surface possesses long pallid thick bulbs and immensely lean leaves.

Jungli Piyaz , Indian PlantIndian squill is a fleshy plant with a smoothened surface. It has egg-shaped, elongated, dull white or pale, bulky bulbs measuring 5 to 10 cm. It has exceedingly constricted leaves and light brown flowers in lean, extensive bunch. The fruits are three-celled capsules with flat black seeds. The dry, outer coats of its bulbs are disposed off before wedging and drying. This makes up the drug.

Fresh squill consists of two glycosides - scillaren A which is crystalline and scillaren B, which is uncrystallised.
