Suvir Saran, Indian ChefSuvir Saran is an accomplished Indian chef, cookbook author, educator as well as a farmer who specializes in bringing Indian cooking to the American kitchen. He also appeared as a contestant on the 3rd season of "Bravo"s Top Chef Masters". Viewing the kitchen as both a culinary and spiritual haven, Suvir Saran has nurtured a lifelong passion for the traditional flavours of Indian cooking.

Early Life of Suvir Saran
Suvir Saran was born on November 29, 1972 in New Delhi. He studied visual arts at Sir J. J. School of Art in Mumbai and also in New York. During this time he enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends when he was not working or going to school. He quickly turned his hobby into a catering business named "Rasoi, The Indian Kitchen".

Career of Suvir Saran
In 1997, Suvir Saran joined the staff at Department of Food and Nutrition at New York University"s Professional Development and Continuing Education Program. Later, he became an "Executive Chef" at "Dévi" in New York City after appearing on the television reality show and writing several best selling cookbooks.

"Dévi" is specialized in the flavours of Indian home cooking. It is the first Indian restaurant in the US to have earned a Michelin Star. Suvir left the restaurant in March 2012, and it got closed the next month.

A respected culinary authority, Saran is Chairman of Asian Culinary Studies for the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and travels extensively to teach audiences ranging from home cooks and fellow chefs to physicians and nutritionists. He has been a featured speaker and guest chef for notable gatherings. Suvir Saran has also led classes for culinary centres and schools nationwide.

American Masala Farm of Suvir Saran
"American Masala Farm" is a 19th Century farm of nearly 70 acres with a farmhouse and 8 out-buildings which is run by Suvir Saran along with his partner Charlie. Located in the Upstate New York town of Hebron, the farm is made to nurture variety of heritage breeds of poultry, goats, cattle and other livestock.
