Satarupa Sanyal, Indian Film DirectorSatarupa Sanyal is one of the Bengali Indian Movie Directors who has directed numerous independent or parallel cinema and apart from that even been a producer, actress, poet and social activist. She is popular for her feminist social stances that thrive to be the water mark for her films.

Early Life of Satarupa Sanyal
Satarupa was born on November 12, 1962, to Professor Tarun Sanyal and Keya Sanyal, in the Burdwan town, West Bengal. She had received her school education at the St. Margaret`s School in Kolkata, and later attended the Scottish Church College for her school leaving examination. Later she graduated from the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. A lyricist and a singer on All India Radio, she was a veterinary doctor before joining films. An accomplished dancer, Satarupa received training in Indian classical music and Tagore songs from her childhood days and won many prizes at school competitions.

Career of Satarupa Sanyal The strains of artistry of Sanyal came to the forefront as a result of her interest and her apt venture into the domains of Hindustani Classical Music and Rabindra Sangeet and later she performed for the All India Radio. She even tried her hands in acting in films since 1985. Initially she performed roles for Doordarshan plays and telefilms. These include performances in Sukh, Aparichita, Uttaradhikar, Bikalpa, Sukher Jonne, Prasab and Bhanga Aiyna.however fate had alternative plans booked and crafted for her.

She quit acting and became occupied in film production. She worked as an Assistant Director and associated script writer to noted director Utpalendu Chakrabarty for seven years. This helped in her journey towards the maker of a director. .

Currently, she is a member of the Central Board of Film Certification.
