Reeth Abraham is an athlete from India and was once the national champion in long jump and heptathlon. She won the Arjuna Award in 1997. June 2010, Reeth along with other accomplished athletes and sports enthusiasts founded Clean Sports India, a novel organization with the following objectives
Early Life of Reeth Abraham
Reeth studied in Christ the King Convent in the Indian city of Mysore situated in the Indian state of Karnataka. She would participate in many school events. In the concluding function of middle school education, she played a key role in a skit. She was a kho kho player. Starting from Kho Kho, she went on to become a famous athlete.
Life in Sports for Reeth Abraham
Government of India, in the year 1997, honoured Reeth Abraham with The Arjuna Award. During the course of her long athletic career spanning over 15 years, precisely from 1976 to 1992, Reeth represented the state of Karnataka and India on a number of occasions, setting records along the way.
She also served the country in the best tradition maintaining a high level of performance. All her achievements were the result of her dedication, application and sense of discipline.
Her best achievement was as a mother when she won a national championship within 10 months of giving birth. She is also the first Indian mother to break a national record and the South Asian Games record. She also holds to her credit being the first Asian woman to win an Asian medal in an Individual event as a mother.
At national level championships, Reeth in all won 16 Gold and 11 Silver medals. She holds to her credit of being a national champion in three events namely heptathlon, 100 meters hurdles and long jump and achieving national record in long jump and heptathlon.
At International level, she brought accolades to India by winning a number of international medals. She participated in two Asian Games, three Asian Track & Field Championships and two South Asian Games. In all, she won 3 Gold and 1 Silver at the South Asian Games and also held the games record in long jump.
