The Super League saw a tough competition between the 15 teams, coming from all the five zones.

The Super League stage of the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 saw the participation of the top 15 teams from all the five zones of the tournament. The Ranji Trophy is considered to be the most popular and premium domestic cricket tournament in India. The 15 teams that played in the Super League stage of the tournament included the top three teams from each of the zones. The teams included the likes of Bengal, Baroda, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Saurashtra, Haryana, Railways, Orissa, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad. All the teams gave their best efforts to become one of the top six teams in the Super League stage, as only the top six teams were allowed to participate in the knock out level of the tournament. The teams like Hyderabad, Delhi, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka eventually became successful to enter into the knock out level of the tournament and they competed with each other for the coveted championship title.

The Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 started with the match between the Group A teams of Bengal and Baroda and the two teams played the match at Calcutta from 05-08 February, 1999. The match remained drawn during the stipulated period and the match officials awarded both the Bengal and Baroda teams 3 points, each for the match. The second match of the Super League involved two Group C teams like the Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. The match was held at Bhilai from 05-08 February, 1999 and the drawn match saw the Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh teams earning 5 and 3 points, respectively from it. The two Group B teams of Maharashtra and Delhi played against each other in the third match of the Super League and the match took place at Pune from 05-08 February, 1999. The Maharashtra team earned 5 points and Delhi earned 3 points from the drawn match.

The match between the teams of Rajasthan and Punjab was the fourth of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the match was organised at Jaipur from 05-08 February, 1999. The Group A match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded both the Rajasthan and Punjab teams 3 points, each for the match. The next match of the Super League was played between the teams of Saurashtra and Haryana and the two Group C teams played the match at Rajkot from 05-08 February, 1999. The Saurashtra and Haryana teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. Then, the Group B teams of Railways and Orissa played against each other in the next match of the Super League and the match took place at Patiala from 06-09 February, 1999. The drawn match saw the Orissa team earning 5 points and Railways earning 3 points from it.

The two teams from Group C, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh met with each other in the seventh of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the match took place at Ranchi from 14-17 February, 1999. There was no winner in the match and as a result, the match officials awarded both the Bihar and Madhya Pradesh teams 3 points, each for the drawn match. The next match of the zone saw the Group B teams of Delhi and Tamil Nadu playing against each other at Delhi from 14-17 February, 1999. The match also remained drawn during the specified period of time and the Delhi and Tamil Nadu teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The Group A teams like Hyderabad and Punjab played against each other in the next match of the Super League and the match was held at Secunderabad from 14-17 February, 1999. The Hyderabad team played very well in the match for clinching a victory of 24 runs to earn 8 points and the Punjab team failed to earn any points from the match.

The teams of Karnataka and Haryana played against each other in the tenth of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the two teams played the match at Bangalore from 14-17 February, 1999. The Karnataka team earned 8 points from the Group C match by clinching a victory of an innings and 36 runs and the Haryana team remained pointless in the match. The next match of the Super League involved two Group B teams like Railways and Maharashtra and the match was held at Patiala from 14-17 February, 1999. The Maharashtra and Railways teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the specified period of time. The Rajasthan team then played against the Bengal team in the next match of the Super League and the Group A match took place at Jaipur from 14-17 February, 1999. The Bengal team earned 5 points and Rajasthan 3 points from the drawn match.

The Group A teams of Bengal and Hyderabad appeared in the next match of the Super League and the match took place at Calcutta from 23-26 February, 1999. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Bengal and Hyderabad teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The next match of the Super League was played between two Group C teams like Bihar and Haryana and the match was held at Ranchi from 23-26 February, 1999. The match was also a drawn one during the specified period of time and the Haryana and Bihar teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The teams of Karnataka and Saurashtra played against each other in the next match of the Super League and the Group C match was held at Bangalore from 23-26 February, 1999. The winner of the match was the Karnataka team with a very good margin of 197 runs and the team also earned 8 points from the match. However, the Saurashtra team could not earn even a single point from the match.

The match between the Group B teams of Maharashtra and Orissa was the 16th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the match took place at Pune from 23-26 February, 1999. The Maharashtra and Orissa teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match. The next match of the Super League was a Group A match and the match saw the teams of Rajasthan and Baroda playing against each other at Jaipur from 23-26 February, 1999. The match went on to be drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Rajasthan and Baroda teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. Then, the Group B teams like Tamil Nadu and Railways met with each other in the next match of the Super League and the match was held at Chennai from 23-26 February, 1999. The Tamil Nadu team earned 5 points and Railways earned 3 points from the drawn match.

The next match of the Super League was a match of the Group A and the match was played between the teams of Baroda and Punjab at Vadodara from 04-07 March, 1999. The match was won by the Punjab team with a good margin of an innings and 19 runs and the team also earned 8 points from the match. However, the Baroda team remained pointless in the match. The 20th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 saw the Group B teams of Delhi and Railways playing against each other at Delhi from 04-07 March, 1999. The Delhi team played very well in the match for clinching a huge victory of 9 wickets to earn 8 points and the Railways team failed to earn any point from the match. The next match of the Super League was played between the two Group A teams like Hyderabad and Rajasthan and the match was held at Secunderabad from 04-07 March, 1999. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Hyderabad and Rajasthan teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

The Karnataka and Bihar teams played against each other in the 22nd of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the two Group C teams played the match at Bangalore from 04-07 March, 1999. The Karnataka team earned 8 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 87 runs and the Bihar team failed to earn any points from the match. Then, the two teams of Madhya Pradesh and Saurashtra met with each other in the next match of the Super League and the match was held at Indore from 04-07 March, 1999. The match saw the Madhya Pradesh team winning by a very good margin of 7 wickets to earn 8 points and it also saw the Saurashtra team remaining pointless in it. The Tamil Nadu team then played against the Orissa team in the next match of the Super League and the match was held at Chennai from 04-07 March, 1999. The Group B match was won by the Tamil Nadu team with a very good margin of an innings and 41 runs for earning 8 points and the Orissa team failed to earn any points from the match.

The teams of Baroda and Hyderabad met with each other in the 25th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the Group A match was held at Vadodara from 13-16 March, 1999. The drawn match saw the Hyderabad team earning 5 points and Baroda earning 3 points from it. The next match of the Super League was held at Calcutta from 13-16 March, 1999 and the match involved the two Group A teams like Bengal and Punjab. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Punjab and Bengal teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The match between the teams of Bihar and Saurashtra was the next match of the Super League and the Group C match took place at Jamadoba from 13-16 March, 1999. The Saurashtra team earned 5 points and Bihar earned 3 points from the drawn match.

The 28th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 was also a match of the Group C and the match involved the teams like Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. The two teams played the match at Rajnandgaon from 13-16 March, 1999 and the Madhya Pradesh team became successful to win the match. The Madhya Pradesh team won the match by a good margin of an innings and 24 runs to earn 8 points and the Haryana team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the Super League was played between the Group B teams of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu and the match was held at Pune from 13-16 March, 1999. The Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the specified period of time. The Group B teams like Orissa and Delhi appeared in the last of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the two teams played the match at Cuttack from 13-16 March, 1999. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Orissa and Delhi teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.
