The top 6 teams from the Super League stage entered into the knock out level of the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98.

After the completion of the league matches in all the five zones, the organisers of the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98, BCCI allowed 15 teams to enter into the Super League stage. The Ranji Trophy is quite famous for being the premium domestic cricket tournament in India and the Super League stage of the tournament comprised of three teams from each of the five zones. The BCCI divided the teams into three different groups, namely Group A, Group B and Group C and the teams competed with each other for getting an entry into the knock out level of the tournament. The top six teams from the Super League stage were eventually given the permission to compete in the knock out level of the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98. The teams that played in the Super League stage of Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 included the likes of Karnataka, Punjab, Mumbai, Railways, Bengal, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Hyderabad, Baroda, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Maharashtra. Though all the teams tried their best, only the teams like Hyderabad, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka and Mumbai eventually got into the knock out level of the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98.

The first of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 was played between the teams of Baroda and Haryana and the two Group C teams played the match at Vadodara from 05-08 February, 1998. The Haryana team played very well in the match and clinched a huge victory of 9 wickets to earn 8 points from the match. The Baroda team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the Super League was also a Group C match and this time, the teams of Bihar and Hyderabad played against each other at Jamshedpur from 05-08 February, 1998. The Hyderabad team earned 8 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 152 runs and the Bihar team remained pointless in the match. The Group B teams like Delhi and Bengal met with each other in the next match of the Super League and the match was held at Delhi from 05-08 February, 1998. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Bengal and Delhi teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

The match between the Group A teams of Karnataka and Punjab was the fourth of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 and the match took place at Bangalore from 05-08 February, 1998. The winner of the match was the Karnataka team with a margin of 262 runs for earning 8 points and the Punjab team failed to earn any points from the match. The other two Group A teams like Mumbai and Railways then played against each other in the next match of the Super League and the match was held at Mumbai from 05-08 February, 1998. The match was won by the Mumbai team with a margin of an innings and 176 runs and the team earned 8 points from the match. The Railways team could not earn even a single point from the match. The next match of the Super League involved the two Group B teams like Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh and the match took place at Chennai from 05-08 February, 1998. The Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.

The Haryana and Bihar teams met with each other in the seventh of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 and the two teams from Group C played the match at Faridabad from 14-17 February, 1998. The Bihar and Haryana teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The teams of Karnataka and Railways played against each other in the next match of the Super League and the match was a Group A match. The match was organised at Bangalore from 14-17 February, 1998 and it saw the Karnataka team winning by a good margin of 6 wickets for earning 8 points from it. However, the Railways team remained pointless in the match. The Madhya Pradesh and Baroda teams were involved in the next match of the Super League and the two Group C teams played the match at Rajnandgaon from 14-17 February, 1998. The drawn match saw the Madhya Pradesh team earning 5 points and Baroda earning 3 points from it.

The teams of Mumbai and Orissa played against each other in the tenth of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 and the match was held at Mumbai from 14-17 February, 1998. The Group A match saw the Mumbai team winning by a very good margin of an innings and 46 runs to earn 8 points and it also saw the Orissa team remaining pointless. The Group B teams like Tamil Nadu and Delhi met with each other in the next match of the Super League and the match took place at Chennai from 14-17 February, 1998. Both the Tamil Nadu and Delhi teams earned 2 points, each from the zone, as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra teams took part in the next match of the Super League and the two Group C teams played the match at Kanpur from 14-17 February, 1998. The Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.

The Group C teams like Bihar and Baroda played against each other in the next match of the Super League and the match as held at Patna from 22-25 February, 1998. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the Baroda and Bihar teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from it. The next match of the zone saw the Group B teams of Bengal and Tamil Nadu playing against each other at Calcutta from 23-26 February, 1998. The match officials cancelled the match without even the toss was made. The next match of the zone was also saw two Group B teams playing against each other and this time, the Delhi and Maharashtra teams played at Delhi from 23-26 February, 1998. The match was also cancelled by the match officials without even the toss was made.

The Group C match between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad was the 16th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 and the match took place at Bhilai from 23-26 February, 1998. The Hyderabad and Madhya Pradesh teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match. The next match of the Super League saw the teams of Orissa and Karnataka playing against each other at Rourkela from 23-26 February, 1998. The Group A match saw the Karnataka team winning by a good margin of an innings and 123 runs for earning 8 points and the Orissa team remained pointless in the match. The next match of the Super League was also a Group A match and this time, the teams of Punjab and Railways played against each other at Mohali from 23-26 February, 1998. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Railways and Punjab teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

The two Group B teams like Bengal and Maharashtra played against each other in the 19th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 and the two teams played the match at Calcutta from 04-07 March, 1998. The Bengal and Maharashtra teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained during the specified period of time. The next match of the Super League was a Group C match and the match was played between the teams of Haryana and Hyderabad. The match was held al Faridabad from 04-07 March, 1998 and the drawn match saw the Haryana and Hyderabad teams earning 5 and 3 points, respectively from it. Then, the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar met with each other in the next match of the Super League at Gwalior from 04-07 March, 1998. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the Madhya Pradesh and Bihar teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match.

The Group A match between the teams of Orissa and Railways was the next match of the Super League and the two teams played the match at Cuttack from 04-07 March, 1998. The Orissa team played very well in the match and clinched a victory of 116 runs to earn 8 points and the Railways team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the Super League was also a Group A match and the teams of Punjab and Mumbai played against each other at Mohali from 04-07 March, 1998. The Mumbai and Punjab teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match. The next match of the Super League involved the Group B teams like Uttar Pradesh and Delhi and the match was held at Kanpur from 04-07 March, 1998. The match was cancelled by the match officials without even the toss was made.

The Bengal and Uttar Pradesh teams played against each other in the 25th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 and the Group B match was held at Calcutta from 13-16 March, 1998. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded both the Bengal and Uttar Pradesh teams 2 points, each for the match. The teams of Haryana and Madhya Pradesh then met with each other in the next match of the Super League and the match took place at Faridabad from 13-16 March, 1998. There was no winner in the Group C match and the match officials awarded the Madhya Pradesh and Haryana teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The next match of the Super League was played between the two Group C teams like Hyderabad and Baroda and the match was played at Secunderabad from 13-16 March, 1998. The Baroda and Hyderabad teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.

The 28th of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 saw the Group A teams of Mumbai and Karnataka playing against each other at Mumbai from 13-16 March, 1998. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Mumbai and Karnataka teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The next match of the Super League was played between the teams of Orissa and Punjab and the Group A match was held at Berhampur from 13-16 March, 1998. The match also remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the Orissa and Punjab teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The last of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1997-98 involved the Group B teams like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra and the two teams played the match Chennai from 13-16 March, 1998. The match officials cancelled the match without even the toss was made.
