All the 6 regular teams that were participating under the North Zone in the tournament played against each other in the Ranji Trophy, 1995-96 also. The tournament is well known to be the premium domestic cricket tournament in India and the North Zone teams were mainly coming from the Northern region of India. The teams included the likes of Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Services and Punjab. The teams competed with each other very hard for becoming one of the top three teams in the zone and also for entering into the knock out level of the tournament. However, the teams like Delhi, Punjab and Haryana eventually became successful to do so from the zone, as they earned total of 18, 16 and 10 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches.

The North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1995-96 started with the match between the teams of Delhi and Haryana and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 10-13 December, 1995. The Delhi team got a very good start in the tournament, as it won the match by a wonderful margin of 145 runs to earn 6 points. The Haryana team failed to earn any points from the match. The second match of the zone was played between the teams of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir and the match was held at Chamba from 10-13 December, 1995. The Himachal Pradesh team won the match by a walkover without even a single ball was bowled. The third match of the North Zone was also played during the same timing from 10-13 December, 1995 and this time, the teams of Punjab and Services played against each other at Chandigarh. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Punjab team 2 points for the match, as it had a lead in the first innings. The Services team remained pointless in the match.

The Services team appeared in the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1995-96 also and this time, it played against the Delhi team at Delhi from 17-20 December, 1995. The Delhi team played very well in the match to clinch a victory of an innings and 208 runs for earning 6 points and the Services team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the zone was played between the teams of Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir and the match took place at Faridabad from 17-20 December, 1995. The Haryana team got a walkover in the match and won it, in spite of not a single ball being bowled. The teams of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match was held at Jullundar from 17-20 December, 1995. The winner of the match was the Punjab team with a very good margin of an innings and 258 runs and it also earned 6 points from the match. The Himachal Pradesh team could not earn any points from the match.

The match between the teams of Himachal Pradesh and Services was the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1995-96 and the match was held at Mandi from 03-06 January, 1996. The Services team won the match by a huge margin of 10 wickets for earning 6 points and the Himachal Pradesh team remained pointless in the match. The Punjab and Delhi teams then played against each other in the next match of the zone and the two teams played the match at Amritsar from 03-06 January, 1996. The drawn match saw the Punjab team earning 2 points from it for having a lead in the first innings and the Delhi team remaining pointless in the match. The next match of the zone involved the teams like Himachal Pradesh and Delhi and the match took place at Una from 09-12 January, 1996. The Delhi team played very well in the match for clinching a victory of an innings and 51 runs to earn 6 points and the Himachal Pradesh team failed to earn any points from the match.

The Haryana and Services teams played against each other in the tenth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1995-96 and the match was held at Faridabad from 10-13 January, 1996. The match saw the Haryana team winning by a very good margin of an innings and 54 runs to earn 6 points and it also saw the Services team remaining pointless. The next match of the zone was played between the teams of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir and the match was played from 10-13 January, 1996. The match officials gave the Punjab team a walkover in the match and also declared the Punjab team as the winner of the match. The Haryana team then played against the Himachal Pradesh team in the next match of the zone and the two teams played the match at Rohtak from 16-19 January, 1996. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the Haryana team earned 2 points from the match on the basis of its first innings lead. The Himachal Pradesh team remained pointless in the match,

The next match of the North Zone involved the teams like Services and Jammu & Kashmir and the match was held from 17-20 January, 1996. The match saw the Services team getting a walkover and also being declared as the winner, without even a single ball being bowled. The teams of Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir then played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match was held at Delhi from 23-26 January, 1996. The Delhi team got a walkover from the match and won it, though not a single ball was bowled in the match. The last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1995-96 saw the teams of Haryana and Punjab playing against each other at Gurgaon from 23-26 January, 1996. The Punjab team played very well in the match and beat the Haryana team by a good margin of 4 wickets. The Punjab team earned 6 points from the match, while the Haryana team remained pointless.
