All the 5 teams that had been playing under the Central Zone in the tournament on a regular basis for the past several years were present there in the Ranji Trophy, 1991-92 also. The tournament is famed for being the premium domestic cricket tournament in India and the teams that played under the Central Zone were mainly coming from the Central region of India. The teams included the likes of Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Railways and Madhya Pradesh and they competed against each other very hard for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. Though all the teams tried their best to secure a berth in the knock out level of the tournament, the teams like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh eventually became successful to do so from the zone. The Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan teams played against each other in the third match of the zone and the match took place at Lucknow from 05-08 December, 1991. The drawn match saw the Uttar Pradesh team earning 15 points and Rajasthan earning 12 points from it.
The match between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Railways was the fourth of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1991-92 and the match was held at Gwalior from 05-08 December, 1991. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Madhya Pradesh and Railways teams 7 and 5 points, respectively for the match. The next match of the zone involved the teams like Rajasthan and Vidarbha and the two teams played the match at Bikaner from 12-15 December, 1991. The Vidarbha and Rajasthan teams earned 14 and 9 points, respectively from the drawn match. The Railways team then played against the Uttar Pradesh team in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Delhi from 12-15 December, 1991. The match was also a drawn one and the Uttar Pradesh and Railways teams earned 13 and 9 points, respectively from the match.
The teams of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh played against each other in the seventh of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1991-92 and the two teams played the match at Indore from 19-22 December, 1991. The Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh teams earned 15 and 12 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the specified period of time. The next match of the zone saw the teams of Vidarbha and Railways playing against each other at Nagpur from 19-22 December, 1991. The winner of the match was the Railways team with a huge margin of 10 wickets and the team earned 7 points from it. The Vidarbha team also earned 5 points from the match. The Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh teams then met with each other in the next match of the zone, which took place at Jaipur from 26-29 December, 1991. The Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan teams earned 19 and 9 points, respectively from the drawn match. The last of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1991-92 was played between the teams of Railways and Rajasthan and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 01-04 January, 1992. The match was won by the Railways team with a wonderful margin of an innings and 49 runs and the team earned 22 points from it. The Rajasthan team earned 4 points from the match, as well.
