In the West Zone League Matches of Ranji Trophy, 1990-91 Maharashtra and Bombay teams emerged as winners.

The West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1990-91 that is considered as the most popular domestic cricket tournament in India saw the participation of 5 teams. All the teams had been playing in the tournament on a regular basis for the past several years and the BCCI selected the teams from the Western region of India. The teams included the likes of Gujarat, Baroda, Maharashtra, Bombay and Saurashtra and all the teams tried their best to become one of the top two teams in the zone. Though, all the teams also gave their best efforts for securing a birth in the knock out level of the tournament, only the teams like Maharashtra and Bombay could eventually do so. The Maharashtra and Bombay teams earned total of 64 and 58 points respectively from the zonal level league matches and they competed with the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level, for winning the coveted championship title.

The match between the teams of Gujarat and Baroda was the first of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1990-91 and the match was held at Valsad from 23-25 November, 1990. The Baroda and Gujarat teams earned 15 and 14 points respectively from the match as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The Saurashtra and Maharashtra teams played against each other in the second match of the zone and the two teams played the match at Rajkot from 23-26 November, 1990. The drawn match saw the Maharashtra team earning 12 points and Saurashtra earning 10 points from it. The teams of Bombay and Gujarat played against each other in the third match of the zone and the match took place at Bombay from 30 November-03 December, 1990. The Bombay team clinched a huge victory of 10 wickets in the match for earning 17 points and the Gujarat team also earned 3 points from the match.

The Baroda and Maharashtra teams played against each other in the fourth of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1990-91 and the match venue was Baroda. The match was played from 30 November-03 December, 1990 and it went on to be drawn during the specified period of time. The Maharashtra and Baroda teams earned 17 and 11 points respectively from the drawn match. The next match of the West Zone involved the teams like Saurashtra and Bombay and the match was held at Rajkot from 6-9 December, 1990. The match was also a drawn one and the match officials awarded the Bombay and Saurashtra teams 14 and 7 points, respectively for the match. The match between the teams of Maharashtra and Gujarat was also held during the same timing from 6-9 December, 1990 and the two teams played the match at Pune. The Gujarat and Maharashtra teams earned 12 and 10 points respectively from the drawn match.

The teams of Bombay and Baroda appeared in the seventh of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1990-91 and the two teams played the match at Bombay from 23-26 December, 1990. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Bombay and Baroda teams 17 and 10 points, respectively for the match. The next match of the zone saw the Gujarat and Saurashtra teams playing against each other at Ahmedabad from 23-26 December, 1990. The Saurashtra and Gujarat teams earned 11 and 6 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The Saurashtra team appeared in the next match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Baroda team at Baroda from 29 December, 1990 - 01 January, 1991. The Baroda team won the closely contested match by a narrow margin of only 3 wickets and earned 20 points from it. The Saurashtra team earned 9 points from the match as well. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1990-91 involved the teams like Maharashtra and Bombay and the match took place at Pune from 29 December, 1990 - 01 January, 1991. The drawn match saw the Maharashtra and Bombay teams earning 15 and 10 points respectively from it.
