Delhi and Haryana were the top two teams in the North Zone.

The number of participating teams under the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 was decreased to 5 from that of 6 in the previous edition, as the Railways team was shifted to Central Zone in this edition. The teams that took part under the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 included the likes of Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Services and Jammu & Kashmir. The teams played against each other in the league matches first for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone and then the two toppers entered into the knock out level of the tournament. The teams competed with the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level, for the championship title. The Delhi and Haryana teams eventually became successful to get into the knock out level of the tournament from this zone.

The first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 was played between the teams of Delhi and Services and the match was played at New Delhi from 31 Ovtober-02 November, 1975. The match was drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Delhi and Services teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The second match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab and the match was played at Patiala from 07-09 November, 1975. The drawn match saw the Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir teams 5 and 3 points, respectively from it. The teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana then played against each other in the third match of the zone and the match took place at Hissar from 11-13 November, 1975. The Haryana team showed a very good performance in the match and beat the Jammu & Kashmir team by a margin of an innings and 110 runs for earning the entire 9 points from the match.

There was a clash between the teams of Haryana and Punjab at Rohtak from 15-17 November, 1975 in the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76. The match saw the Haryana team playing wonderfully and clinching a huge victory of an innings and 101 runs for earning 8 valuable points from it. The match between the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Services was also played during the same timing from 15-17 November, 1975 and the match was held at New Delhi. Playing wonderfully in the match, the Services team clinched a huge victory of 9 wickets for earning the full 9 points from it. The Jammu & Kashmir team appeared in the next match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Delhi team at New Delhi from 19-20 November, 1975. The Delhi team earned the entire 9 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 102 runs.

The next match of the North Zone involved the teams like Punjab and Services and the match took place at Amritsar from 21-23 November, 1975. The match remained drawn during the specified duration of time and the Punjab and Services teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The Delhi and Haryana teams then clashed with each other in the next match of the North Zone at New Delhi from 23-25 November, 1975. The Delhi team continued its wonderful form in this match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 49 runs for earning 8 valuable points from it. The Delhi team appeared in the ninth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 also and it played the match against Punjab at Chandigarh from 03-05 December, 1975. The winner of the match was the Delhi team with a margin of an innings and 58 runs and it earned 8 valuable points from the match, as well. The last match of the North Zone was played between the teams of Haryana and Services at Chandigarh from 07-09 December, 1975. The Haryana team finished the zonal level on a successful note, as it won this match with a good margin of 7 wickets and also earned 8 valuable points from it.
