The Railways team shifted to the Central Zone for the first time in this edition.

The Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 saw a change in its team list, as a number of 5 teams played under this zone in the tournament. The new team in the zone was the Railways team that shifted from the North Zone to the Central Zone. The Railways team played against all the other regular teams of the Central Zone like Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. All the teams tried their best to become one of the toppers in the zone and also to get a chance in the knock out level of the tournament. However, the teams like Rajasthan and Railways eventually became successful to do so from the Central Zone.

The match between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha was the first of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 and the match was held at Indore from 04-06 November, 1975. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Vidarbha and Maharashtra teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The teams of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh clashed with each other in the second match of the zone and they played the match at Agra from 04-06 November, 1975. The match saw the Rajasthan team winning by a good margin of 6 wickets and also earning 8 valuable points from it. The Uttar Pradesh team appeared in the third match of the Central Zone also and this time, it played against the Madhya Pradesh team at Aligarh from 09-11 November, 1975. The drawn match saw the Uttar Pradesh team earning 5 points and Madhya Pradesh earning 3 points from it.

The newcomer in the Central Zone, Railways team appeared in the fourth of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 and the team played against the Vidarbha team in the match. The match was organised at New Delhi from 09-11 November, 1975 and it remained drawn during its stipulated duration. The Railways team earned 5 points and Vidarbha earned 3 points from the match. The Vidarbha team played the next match against the Rajasthan team at Udaipur from 14-16 November, 1975. The match also went on to be drawn after its specified period of time and the Rajasthan and Vidarbha teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The Railways team played its second match in the zone against the Uttar Pradesh team at Gorakhpur from 14-16 November, 1975. This was yet another drawn match in the Central Zone and the match officials awarded the Railways and Uttar Pradesh teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

The seventh of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 involved the teams of Vidarbha and Uttar Pradesh and the match took place at Muzaffarnagar from 20-22 November, 1975. The match saw the Uttar Pradesh team winning by a good margin of an innings and 96 runs and earned the entire 9 points from it. The Madhya Pradesh and Railways teams then clashed with each other in the next match of the Central Zone and the match was held at Indore from 21-23 November, 1975. The drawn match saw the Railways team earning 5 points and Madhya Pradesh earning 3 points from it. The next match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Railways and Rajasthan at New Delhi from 05-07 December, 1975. The match officials awarded the Rajasthan and Railways teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the drawn match. The last of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1975-76 was held at Ajmer from 21-23 December, 1975 between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The Rajasthan team showed a very good performance in the match and clinched a huge victory of 10 wckets for earning 8 valuable points from the match.
