The Bombay, Baroda, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Saurashtra were the five teams that participated under the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74. The Maharashtra and Gujarat teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.
The match between the teams of Baroda and Bombay was the seventh of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 and the match was held at Baroda from 22-24 December, 1973. The Bombay team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 36 runs for earning 8 valuable points from it. The next match of the zone saw a battle between the teams of Saurashtra and Gujarat at Junagadh from 22-24 December, 1973, where the Gujarat team won by a margin of 4 wickets to earn the entire 9 points. The teams of Bombay and Maharashtra played against each other in the next match of the West Zone at Bombay from 28-30 December 1973 and the match remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The match saw the Bombay team earning 5 points and Maharashtra earning 3 points from it. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1973-74 involved the teams like Saurashtra and Baroda and the match took place at Bhuj from 29-31 December 1973. The Baroda and Saurashtra teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.
