Ranji Trophy

All the regular 4 teams in the Central Zone of the tournament were present there in the Ranji Trophy, 1972-73. The teams like Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh comprised the Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1972-73 and they played against each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. Reaching the knock out level of the tournament was also another big aim of the teams, however, only the teams like Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh became successful to do so from the zone.

The match between the teams of Vidarbha and Rajasthan was the first of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1972-73. The match was held at Nagpur from 11-13 November, 1972 and it saw the Vidarbha team winning by 111 runs and earning 8 valuable points from it. The second match of the zone was played between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and the match took place at Indore from 12-14 November, 1972. The Madhya Pradesh team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a victory of 48 runs for earning 8 valuable points from it and also getting a good start in the tournament.

The teams of Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha clashed with each other in the third of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1972-73 and the match was held at Nagpur from 16-18 December, 1972. The match was drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Vidarbha and Uttar Pradesh teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The next match of the zone involved the teams like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and the teams met with each other at Birsingpur from 16-18 December, 1972. The drawn match saw the Madhya Pradesh team earning 5 points and Rajasthan earning 3 points from it.

The Madhya Pradesh team appeared in the next match of the Central Zone also and this time, it played against the Vidarbha team at Birsingpur from 23-25 December, 1972. The match was also a drawn one and the Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The last of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1972-73 saw a clash between the teams of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh at Jaipur from 23-25 December, 1972. The drawn match saw the Rajasthan team earning 5 points and Uttar Pradesh earning 3 points from it.
