The West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71 was comprised of a number of 5 teams, all the regular ones from the Western region of India. The Bombay team played very well in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 82 runs for earning 8 valuable points from it. The Baroda and Maharashtra teams took part in the next match of the West Zone and the match was held at Baroda from 05-07 December, 1970. The drawn match saw the Maharashtra and Baroda teams earning 6 and 3 points, respectively from it. The Maharashtra team appeared in the next match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Saurashtra team at Rajkot from 12-14 December, 1970. The Maharashtra team played wonderfully in the match and got a huge victory of an innings and 3 runs for earning 8 valuable points from it. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71 saw a battle between the teams of Gujarat and Baroda at Ahmedabad from 12-14 December, 1970. There was no winner in the match and the match officials awarded both the Gujarat and Baroda teams 4 points each for the drawn match.
