Ranji Trophy

The teams that played under the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 included the likes of Mysore, Hyderabad, Kerala, Madras and Andhra. All the teams were from the Southern region of India and the five teams fought hard against each other for becoming one of the top two teams of the zone. However, the Mysore and Madras were the two teams that entered into the knock out level of the tournament from this zone.

The teams of Mysore and Hyderabad were involved in the first of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 and the match was held at Bangalore from 12-14 November, 1960. The match was cancelled by the match officials due to some unavoidable reasons and they awarded 1 point each to the Mysore and Hyderabad teams. The second match of the zone saw a battle between the teams of Kerala and Madras at Trivandrum from 19-21 November, 1960. The drawn match saw the Madras team earning 6 points and Kerala earning 3 points from it. There was a clash between the teams of Andhra and Hyderabad in the next match of the zone that was played at Secunderabad from 19-20 November, 1960. The Hyderabad team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 92 runs to earn the entire 9 points.

The Hyderabad team was involved in the fourth of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 also and this time, it played against the Madras team at Madras from 26-28 November, 1960. The Madras team won the match by a margin of 7 wickets and it also earned 8 valuable points from the match. Then, the Kerala and Mysore teams clashed with each other in the next match of the zone at Ernakulam from 03-05 December, 1960, where the Mysore team won by 98 runs to earn 8 valuable points. The two powerful teams of the South Zone, Madras and Mysore met with each other at Madras from 10-12 December, 1960 and both the teams earned 2 points each, as the match was drawn.

The seventh of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 saw a clash between the teams of Mysore and Andhra at Bangalore from 17-19 December, 1960. The match was drawn during its specified duration and the match officials awarded the Mysore and Andhra teams 6 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Andhra team played against the Kerala team at Guntur from 24-26 December, 1960, where the Kerala team got a big victory of an innings and 5 runs, to earn 9 points from the match. The next match of the zone involved the teams of Hyderabad and Kerala and the match was played at Hanamkonda from 30 December, 1960 - 01 January, 1961. The Hyderabad team clinched a victory of an innings and 2 runs in the match and earned the full 9 points from it. The last of the South Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 saw a battle between the teams of Andhra and Madras and the match took place at Guntur from 31 December, 1960 - 02 January, 1961. The Madras team won the match with a huge margin of an innings and 87 runs and earned the full 9 points from it.
