Four teams clashed with each other for entering into the knock out level.
The Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 was comprised of a number of 4 teams, including the likes of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and the Vidarbha team. The teams competed once with each other in the zonal stage and they also showed some wonderful cricketing performances during their league campaign. Though all of them tried their best to get into the knock out level, only the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh teams became successful to do so from the Central Zone.
The first match of the Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 was played between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan at Varanasi from 11-13 November, 1960. The Rajasthan team got a very good start in the tournament, as they earned 9 points by winning this match with a margin of 7 wickets. The Rajasthan team then played against the Vidarbha team in the second match of the Zone and the match was held at Nagpur from 22-23 November, 1960. The Rajasthan team played very well in this match also and got a huge victory of an innings and 109 runs to earn the full 9 points from the match.
The teams of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were involved in the third match of the Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61 and the match took place at Indore from 27-29 November, 1960. The wonderful form of the Rajasthan team in the tournament continued in this match also and it won the match by 9 wickets. The team earned the entire 9 points from the match, as well. The fourth match of the Central Zone was played between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha at Meerut from 02-04 December, 1960. The match saw the Uttar Pradesh team winning by a margin of 5 wickets and getting 8 valuable points from it.
In the fifth league match of the Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1960-61, the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha clashed with each other at Indore from 15-17 December, 1960. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The last match of the zone saw a battle between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and the match was held at Meerut from 24-26 December, 1960. The Madhya Pradesh team won the match comprehensively with a margin of 6 wickets and earned 8 points from it. The win also helped the team to enter into the knock out level of the tournament, along with the Rajasthan team.
