The East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 saw the participations from a number of 4 teams like the Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Orissa. All the teams were from the Eastern India, according to the rules of the tournament and the Bengal and Bihar team played extremely in the group league matches. Both the teams were the heavyweights in their Zone and they eventually got into the knock out level from the East Zone.
The league matches of the East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 started with the match between the teams of Bengal and Orissa. The match was held at Calcutta from 13-15 December, 1958 and the match saw the Bengal team winning by a huge margin of 352 runs. The Bengal team also became successful to earn 8 points from the match. The Bengal appeared in the second match of the Zone also and this time, it played against the Assam team at Jorhat from 20-22 December, 1958. The Bengal team played very well in this match also and it won it by a good margin of 187 runs. In the third match of the East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59, the teams of Bengal and Bihar clashed with each other at Calcutta from 17-18 January, 1959. The Bengal team continued it`s wonderful in this match also and became successful to clinch a huge victory of an innings and 157 runs. The team earned the entire 9 points from the match, as well.
The fourth league match of the East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 was held between the teams of Assam and Bihar and the match was held at Nowgong from 23-25 January, 1959. The Bihar team played well in the match to get a huge win of 125 runs and earned valuable 8 points from the match. The teams of Bihar and Orissa played against each other at Patna from 31 January-01 February, 1959 and the match was won by the Bihar team with a margin of 8 wickets. The team earned 8 points from the match. The last match of the East Zone was scheduled to be played between the teams of Assam and Orissa; however, the match could not be played due to come unavoidable reasons.
