Ranji Trophy

All the teams played well in the zonal level and there was a tough competition among them.

The teams from the Central India comprised the Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 and the teams in this zone were the likes of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Rajasthan. The first league match of the Central Zone in the tournament was held between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh at Kanpur from 29-31 December, 1958. The Match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the match officials awarded 5 points to Uttar Pradesh and 3 points to Madhya Pradesh for the match.

The second league match of the Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 saw a battle between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha at Kanpur from 02-04 January, 1959. The match saw the Uttar Pradesh team winning by a good margin of 191 runs and the win helped the team to earn 8 points from the match. The Uttar Pradesh team appeared in the next match of the Zone also and this time, it played against the Rajasthan team at Kanpur from 08-10 January, 1959. The winner of the match was the Rajasthan team with a margin of an innings and 22 runs and it also earned valuable 8 points from the match.

The teams of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha played against each other in the next match of the Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59, at Indore from 19-21 January, 1959. The Madhya Pradesh team played wonderfully in the match and won it by a comprehensive margin of 7 wickets. The team also earned the full 9 points from the match. The Madhya Pradesh team then played against the Rajasthan team in the next match at Indore from 14-16 January, 1959. The match was declared as a drawn one by the match officials. The last match of the Central Zone saw the teams of Vidarbha and Rajasthan clashing with each other at Nagpur from 30 January-01 February, 1959. The Rajasthan team played extraordinarily once again in this match and eventually won it by a margin of 9 wickets. The team earned the entire points for winning the match, as well.
