Ranji Trophy

The teams from the Eastern region of India comprised the East Zone of the Ranji Trophy. 1957-58. The teams that competed with each other from this Zone included the likes of Assam, Orissa, Bengal and Bihar. The teams of Bengal and Bihar were the most powerful amongst them and they went on to the Knock out level from the East Zone.

The East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1957-58 started with the match between the teams of Assam and Orissa at Cuttack from 15-17 December, 1957. The Assam team got 5 points and the Orissa got 3 points from the drawn match of the league. The second match saw the teams of Bihar and Assam playing against each other at Jamshedpur from 21-23 December, 1957. The Bihar team played very well in the match and won it by a huge margin of an innings and 51 runs, to earn the total 9 points from the match. The Assam team then played against the Bengal team in the next match at Calcutta from 26-28 December, 1957. The Bengal team did well to win the match by an innings and 47 runs and earned the entire 9 points from the match.

The teams of Bihar and Orissa clashed with each other in the next league match of the East Zone in Ranji Trophy, 1957-58, at Cuttack from 29-30 December 1957. The Bihar team became successful to win this match by an innings and 130 runs and also earned the entire 9 points from the match. The Orissa team then played against the Bengal team at Cuttack from 04-05 January, 1958, where the Bengal team won by an innings and 99 runs. This win earned the Bengal team a huge 9 points from the match. The last league match of the East Zone was played between the two most powerful teams of the Zone, Bengal and Bihar at Patna from 11-13 January, 1958. The Bengal team played extremely well in the match and clinched a victory of an innings and 26 runs, to earn the entire 9 points from the match.
