Ram Purushottamdas Marathe was a popular actor and singer in Marathi theatre. He was born in Pune in the year 1924. He was educated only up to the fourth standard and joined the Jayanta Film Company at the age of 11. He then entered the Prabhat Film Company, acting the lead in Gopal Krishna i.e. `The Boy Krishna` in 1938 and in Manus or `Life Is for the Living` in 1939. At that place his song became an instant hit.
He received formal training in Hindustani classical music from Manohar Barve, Mirashibuwa, `Master` Krishnarao, Vilayat Hussein Khan, and Jagannathbuwa Purohit, assimilating the Gwalior, Agra, and Jaipur gharanas to emerge an outstanding vocalist. Apart from his career as concert singer, he contributed to Marathi theatre by performing and composing music for such classic vehicles as Gadkari`s Ekachpyala, Khadilkar`s Manapaman, and Vidyadhar Gokhale`s Mandarmala in 1963. Ram Purushottamdas Marathe acted in Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati movies for over three decades. This talented personality died in the year 1989.
