Parimarjan Negi is an Indian chess player and a reputed Grandmaster. Parimarjan Negi was born on 9th February 1993. He became the 2nd youngest Grandmaster on July 1st 2006 at the age of thirteen years, four months and twenty two days. Parimarjan Negi won his 3rd and final International Master norm in July 2005 at the Sort International Open Chess Tournament in Spain. He also won his 3rd and final Grandmaster norm in Russia at the Chelyabinsk Region Superfinal Championship in the year 2006. The current FIDE rating of Parimarjan Negi is 2641, of January 2011.
Career of Parimarjan Negi
Parimarjan Negi made a mark in chess at the remarkable age of 4. In 2002 he won the Asian under-10 championship. Thus Negi became the youngest Grandmaster in India and on 1st July, 2006 became the second youngest in the history of the game by drawing with Russian Grandmaster Ruslan Sherbakov. He finished the game with six points from nine rounds of the Chelyabinsk Region Super final chess tournament held in Satka. As the country`s youngest ever Grandmaster, Negi replaced Pentala Harikrishna. In August 2001, Hari reached the landmark at the age of 15 years and 99 days.
Parimarjan tasted his first international success in the year 2002, after winning the Asian Under-10 championship held at Tehran. He has been the youngest Indian to earn the Grandmaster title and in the year 2005 he became the world`s youngest International Master. His current FIDE rating is 2641, but the highest rating achieved by him was 2538. His notable games are Hector vs. P Negi in the year 2007 won by 0-1, P Negi vs. B Lalic in the year 2006 won by 1-0, P Negi vs. S Erenburg in the year 2005 won by 1-0, P Negi vs. Z Mamedjarova in the year 2005 won by1-0, P Negi vs. Hebden in the year 2005 won by 1-0.
Parimarjan Negi is pursuing his studies from the Amity International School and the reputed Indian chess player has won several tournaments at the institute. On 22nd December, 2010 Negi defeated G.N. Gopal to win the 48th National Premier Chess Championship held at New Delhi. He is regarded as the youngest GM on the planet. His favourite player is Viswanathan Anand.
