Maninder Singh, Delhi Cricket PlayerManinder Singh was born on June 13, 1965 in Pune, India. Maninder Singh was a slow left-arm orthodox bowler and his bowling technique resembled, to a great extent, the bowling style of the master-spinner and one of the stalwarts of the Indian Spin Quartet, Bishan Singh Bedi. This spin-handler of the mid 1980s had equal command over flight, diversity in delivery and in the proper movements of the ball in responsive pitches. Back home, this exuberant youth imparted pretty attractive deeds against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. But somehow he couldn`t maintain his performance level. He attempted to revive his lost glory in the early 1990`s. He tried to introduce innovations in his art of bowling, but it was of no avail.

Maninder`s last Test was against Zimbabwe at Delhi, in March 1993. In the 35 Tests, that Maninder Singh took part; he pocketed 88 wickets at an average of 37.36. His crowning Test glory in an innings was 7 wickets for 27 runs. Whereas his best figure in a Test match was 10 wickets for 107 runs.

Maninder Singh could not fulfil the expectations that India has dreamt about this junior Bishan Singh Bedi, much to his own grief. Yet we should venerate him for at least what he has contributed to cricket, because he has really tried to give his best.
