The game of Tennis is considered to be one of the most popular sports in India, in modern times. Being brought by the British rulers in the 18th century, Tennis has increased its popularity among the Indians day by day. Though it was being played in an unorganised manner for a long period, initiatives were taken during the first half of the twentieth century to manage Tennis in India. A large number of Tennis associations started to be established during that period for a better management of Indian Tennis.

Management Bodies of Tennis
The initiatives for a better management of Indian Tennis were started with the formation of the All India Lawn Tennis Association (AILTA) in March, 1920. The AILTA was established at Lahore, as a national governing body for Tennis in India. The name of the organisation was changed to All India Tennis Association (AITA) in the early half of 1980s. Since its inception, the AITA has been working relentlessly for the well being of Indian Tennis and it is promoting the game in India, as well. The AITA is in charge of organising and supervising any kinds of Tennis related activities in India.
