The Ministry of Environment and Forests (India) has notified the island as a marine protected area for ensuring conservation of the Island.

Location of Kadmat Island Beach
Kadmat Island is located in the islands of Lakshadweep archipelago in the Unioin Territory of India. Kadmat Island is located at about 8 degree north to 12 degree 30minutes north and 71 degree east to 74 degree East latitudinal and longitudinal limits. Kadmat Island Beach is located on a coral reef 5 kilometres north of Amini Island.

Attractions of Kadmat Island Beach
Kadmat Island Beach or Cardamom Island has a length of 8 kilometres. It has an average area of a total of 3.12 square kilometres. The average annual temperature varies from 24.2 degree Celsius to 34.4 degree Celsius. The average annual rainfall of Kadmat Island Beach is 1237 millimetres.

Kadmat Island Beach or Cardamom Island offers many water sports and leisure tourism sites. This island beach has scuba diving, snorkelling and swimming options. Kadmat Island Beach or Cardamom is located at about 407 kilometres from Cochin or Kochi. The land area of Kadmat Beach is 8 kilometres long and 550 metres wide at the broadest point. In addition to that, there is a beautiful shallow lagoon on the west that forms an ideal spot for water sports and there is a narrow lagoon on the east which is another attraction. The best attractions are the long sandy beaches and the sand banks on the southern tip for sunbath.

Kadmat Beach or Cardomom Beach has been identified for its tourists huts aesthetically situated in the coconut palm groves in the beaches facing the lagoon. Cardomom Beach is ideal place for a real romantic holiday that brings one away from the maddening crowd, hustle and bustle of the city life.

Fishing is the main occupation of the islanders of Kadmat Island. The ecological importance of this island includes presence of three types of habitats like coral reef, sea-grass and nesting ground for marine turtles. Based on the ecological and economic value of Kadmat Island Beach, the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Union Territory of Lakshadweep Government have declared it as a marine protected area for preservation of these habitats and their resources.
