Judoka in India have earned fame and recognition to the country in the field of judo by representing India at the Olympics and other international championships.

Judoka in IndiaJudoka in India have, over the years, been successful in the form of sport called Judo. Judo came to India during the rule of British colonialism in India.

Judoka refers to the Judo practitioners. Judo is a sport that actually originated long back in Japan, and is an ideal form of physical exercise and self defence. This game also forms as a source of education and development of character. Prof. Kano, who was the actual creator of Judo, also emphasized that effective use of mind and body is actually the key to self-attainment. Judokas have been the first athletes from India who have represented the country at Olympics for the first time from Asia.

Development and Origin of Judo
The development and origin of Judo as a sport of combative purposes actually demonstrates the significance and superiority of technique over strength. The evolution of modern judo, was also based on high standards based on ethics, and always gave respect that was due to its technical system and combative method. Some of the judoka in India are Khumujam Tombi Devi, Divya Tewar, Anil Kumar, Garima Chaudhary, Lourembam Brojeshori Devi and Midhun Jith.

Khumujam Tombi Devi
Judoka in IndiaKhumujam Tombi Devi is an Indian judoka, who represented the country at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She participated in the 48 kg category, but lost to Portugal`s Ana Hormigo in the preliminary round.

Divya Tewar
Divya Tewar, an Indian judoka, was born on 1st of August in the year 1984 in the Indian state of Haryana. She represented India at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing in the 78 kg category, but failed to qualify for the finals.

Anil Kumar
Anil Kumar (born 12 December 1984) is an Indian judoka. In the year 2005, in Asian Judo Championships in the middleweight category (90 kg) he was ranked 7th. The year before that, in 2004, for the same championship of Asian Judo Championship of Open Class he was placed 5th.

Garima Chaudhary
Garima Chaudhary (born 2nd April, 1990 in Meerut) is another Indian judoka who represented India at the 2012 London Olympics as the sole representative of the country for Women`s (63 kg) category. She has been trained in France and Germany for Olympics where she received a competition-oriented training focussing on specific fitness aspects.

Lourembam Brojeshori Devi
Lourembam Brojeshori Devi was an Indian judoka who represented the country in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She had partaken in 20 international and 16 national judo championships and had been the winner of three gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the international level. She was also a participant of the Women`s Half-Lightweight category in the 2000 Olympic Games where she made it to the semi finals.

Narender Singh
Narender Singh is an Indian Judoka, hailing from Delhi. He won his first national championship in 1985. He represented his country for the first time at the 1989 South Asian Games and won a gold medal. In the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland he was the joint bronze medallist in the Extra Lightweight division. He is the first judoka to have represented India twice at the Summer Olympic Games. At his first appearance in Barcelona in 1992, Egypt"s Ahmed El Sayed eliminated him in the first round of competition. In 1996 he was one of four men who had to play a qualifying match in order to reduce the field to the required 32 judoka, which he won over Ireland`s Sean Sullivan. He then lost in the round of 32, held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, to Natik Bagirov from Belarus.

Midhun Jith
Midhun Jith (born April 2, 1989) is an Indian judoka who also exhibits expertise in the field of Karate, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ). In the year 2002 he won the Gold medal at the district level.
