Jhulan Goswami

Jhulan Goswami is the present captain of Indian Women’s Team. She plays domestic matches for east zone and Bengal as well.

Jhulan Goswami, Indian Woman CricketerJhulan Goswami, a popular face in Indian women`s cricket circuit, was born in the year 25th November 1983 in Nadia District, West Bengal. She is an all-rounder, and can contribute with both ball and bat. Jhulan, apart from playing for her national side, also plays for Bengal team, East Zone Women`s Cricket and also in the Asia Women`s XI cricket team. She is presently the Indian captain for the women`s cricket team. She was appointed for this job on 1st February 2009 to lead the team for the World Cup.

She has a Test bowling average of less than 17. In the 2006-07 seasons she guided the Indian team to first test series win in England. Although not very strongly built, she bowls with a smooth, easy run up and generates decent pace off the pitch. Currently she is the fastest bowler in the world; her highest being 120kph. She also has the uncanny habit of bowling with extra bounce and surprise the batsman.

Jhulan Goswami, Indian Woman CricketerGoswami had a good outing at the Quadrangular tournament in Chennai in February-March 2007 taking 11 wickets at 20.99 from seven games. After that haul she needed only four more to become the fourth woman to reach 100 wickets in ODIs and she got to the landmark in May 2007 at the Asia Cup in 2008.

Presently she is the second highest wicket takers among Indian women cricketer, behind Neetu David. In June 2007, Goswami was part of the Asia squad for the Afro-Asia tournament in India. The following year, for the Australian tour, she replaced Mithali Raj as the Indian captain.
