Established in 1951, Jamal Mohamed College is regarded as a premier college of Tamil Nadu that previously was affiliated to the University of Madras and then with the formation of Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli in 1984, the college became allied to it. The Society of Jamal Mohamed College administers the institution.

Tracing down history it is known that the Jamal Mohamed College campus was formed as a religious minority institution, to provide scope of higher education to the socially backward sections of the society in general, especially the Muslim community. The college was inaugurated on 11th July 1951 by Hon. Thiru P.S. Kumarasamy Raja, the then Chief Minister of Madras along with His Excellency, the Maharaja of Bhavanagar, the then Governor of Madras.

Jamal Mohamed College, Race Course Road, Khaja Nagar, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu Within a span of five decades the Jamal Mohamed College reached its zenith with the bestowal of the status of a multi-faculty institution. It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as research programmes. Under Govt. aided stream, courses for male students include-- B.A in Arabic Literature, B.A in Economics, B.A in English Literature, B.A in History, B.Com. Postgraduate Courses include-- M.A. in Arabic, M.A. in Economics, M.A. in Tamil Literature, M.A. in English Literature, M.Com, M.Sc in Botany, M.Sc in Chemistry, M.Sc in Mathematics, M.Sc in Physics, M.Sc in Zoology, 3 years Master of Computer Application ( M.C.A ). Research Programmes include--M.Phil with specialisations in-Tamil, Arabic, Botany, English, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science. Ph.D is provided in Tamil, Botany, English, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics. The above said courses are offered both in part time and full time levels. Part time Certificate and Diploma Courses are offered by Jamal Mohamed College.

These encompass--Certificate Courses in Arabic and Urdu, Diploma in Computer Application and multi lingual DTPs, (English, Tamil, Urdu and Hindi) one year course for both Men and Women, CA PE-I & ICWA Foundation and wings & Tally accounting Packages for Commerce Students, Typewriting and short hand courses for other Arts Students, self aided course, self - finance courses for men and women.

Undergraduate Courses for men include-- B.Sc. in Computer Science, B.C.A, B.Lit. Postgraduate Courses include--M.B.A, M.Sc in Physics, M.Sc in Chemistry, M.Sc in Zoology, M.Sc in Microbiology, M.C.A (3 - Years) (AICTE Approved), M.Sc in IT, M.Sc in Computer Science, M.Sc in Biotechnology, M.Sc in Bio-Informatics, M.A. in Arabic & Aalim, M.S.W, P.G.D.C.A, P.G.D.C.H, P.G.D.W.P.M. Undergraduate Courses exclusively for women are--B.Sc in Computer Science, B.C.A, B.B.A, B.Com, B.Sc Mathematics, B.A in English Literature. Postgraduate Courses for female students include-MBA, M.Sc in IT, M.Com., M.A in English Literature, M.A in Arabic, P.G.D.C.A. The research programme curriculum is--M.Phil ( Full - Time & Part - Time) in- Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, Mathematics, Physics, Arabic, Computer Science. Ph.D ( Full Time & Part Time) in- Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, Mathematics, Physics, Tamil, Zoology. Certificate and Diploma Course (Part - Time) encompass--One year Diploma Course in Nursing Assistant for Men and Women, Certificate course in Pre-Primary Teachers training for Men and Women, (English, Tamil, Urdu and Hindi) one year course for both Men and Women, Certificate course in Arabic and Urdu, Diploma in Computer Application and multilingual DTP`s, Typewriting and short hand courses for other Arts Students.

Jamal Mohamed College houses several departments like Hindi, History, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Tamil, Urdu, Zoology, Bio-Technology, Bio-Informatics, Business Administration, Microbiology, Social Work, French, English, Economics, Computer Science. These are served by a team of efficient and experienced faculty members.

Students of Jamal Mohamed College are gifted with excellent infrastructure. Its library is well-stocked and it remains open from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., from Monday to Saturday. However on Sundays, it is open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Hostel accommodation also is provided to its students. Khajamian Hostel received its name from one of the founders of the college, Janab Khajamian Rowther, a benevolent businessman of Tiruchirappalli. It came into existence in the same year when the college was founded. Although in the beginning it could accommodate 500 students, currently seats have been increased to 1200 students. A PG New Hostel also has been constructed to accommodate students. Fee concessions are offered to the deserving and poor children.

Apart from academics, special attention is paid to take part in various programmes, under various associations. National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross, Rotaract Club, Leo Club, Anti Dowry Association, Fine Arts Association, Consumer Club, University Students Service Corps are some of the groups present within the college campus.
