Osteoarthritis is caused by a gradual, progressive degeneration of the joint-cartilage with advancing age. Pain and stiffness in the affected joint and usually in a joint of the lower limb is an important symptom. This pain increase gradually. There is absence of any real swelling, redness or warmth in the affected joint.
Treatment of Osteoarthritis
Arnica 30: this is the ideal medicine for osteoarthritis following an injury to a joint. Apart from pain and stiffness, there is a sore, beaten-up feeling in the joint. Everything on which the affected joint lies, seems too hard. Joint-pains are worse from touch or any massage or heat. Resting the affected joint does not relieve pain at all.
Bryonia 30: this is suitable for joint-pain which gets worse from least motion or exertion but improves with absolute rest. Applying heat to the joint or lying on it helps a lot as compare to Arnica. Pressing, massaging or bandaging the joint also helps a lot in this case.
Calc phos 30: this is the medicine for osteoarthritis in lean and emaciated persons. Apart from pain and stiffness, there is a sensation of numbness and crawling in the affected joint. Symptoms are worse in damp, cold weather but better in hot and dry weather.
Causticum 30: this is suitable for chronic osteoarthritis with joint-deformities from contractures of muscles. Pain is worse in clear fine weather but lessens in the monsoon.
Rhus tox 30: this is the medicine mainly for osteoarthritis characterized by stiffness, pain and a feeling of soreness in the affected joint. Pain and stiffness are worse after rest or inactivity but gradually diminish on walking around. Joint-problems are worse in rainy weather but better by application of dry heat.
