There is a constant desire to swallow the saliva. There is a rush of blood to the head, causing flushed face and throbbing carotids as well.
Merc sol 30: This medicine can be used when the patient suffers from severe pharyngitis, the throat looking bluish red. The tongue is large and moist and shows an imprint of teeth. Profuse, offensive perspiration, trembling of the body and extreme thirst for large quantities of cold water indicate this medicine.
Phytolacca: Severe pharyngitis with dark-red, ash-coloured appearance of this throat and burning pain in the throat. The pain shoots into the ears on trying to swallow. The pain is worse on taking hot fluids but better when cold drinks are consumed. When all these symptoms are present in a patient, he or she should take the medicine named Phytolacca.
