Hakim Dawud Taqarrub Khan
Hakim Dawud Taqarrub Khan, son of Hakim Inayatullah was a well physician in the court of Shah Jahan. The Hakim also served in the court of Aurangzeb.
Hakim Dawud Taqarrub Khan, a notable and distinguished physician, was the son of Hakim Inayatullah. He studied medicine under Fakhr al-Din Shirazi (Mirza Muhammad), father of Hakim Sadra and personal physician of Shah Abbas Safawi.
Life of Hakim Dawud Taqarrub Khan
Hakim Dawud Taqarrub Khan arrived in India during the reign of Shah Jahan. After the death of his father he developed an intimate relationship with Shah Abbas Safawi, the later being drawn towards him for his deep knowledge of sciences as well as his expertise in medicine. The successors of Shah Abbas Safawi, Shah Safi and Shah Abbas II did not possess much interest towards men of learning. Distressed and strained he severed ties with them and came to India in 1644. He was received with great respect and love by Emperor Shah Jahan. His profound knowledge and proficiency in medicine helped him draw the attention of the emperor with whom he developed a close relationship. During one occasion Hakim Dawud along with a team of physicians such as Hakim Momina and Hakim Sadra had treated Shahzadi Jahanara of her burns as well as the ensuing complications like recurring fever. Upon the recovery of the princess, Shah Jahan bestowed the Hakim with presents such as a horse with golden saddle and an elephant. The emperor, later in the 31st year of his accession, developed some urinary trouble. His pain and complication aggravated when he was treated by some court physicians. Despite their best efforts the problem could not be solved. Finally Hakim Dawud Taqarrub Khan was sent for whose treatment helped him get over his illness completely. After the dethroning of Shah Jahan, Hakim Dawud served in the court of Aurangzeb. He died in 1663.
