Gyalshing
Gyalshing is the capital of West Sikkim District of Sikkim. It is the hill station of North East India which is very near to West Bengal.

The town of Gyalshing or Geyzing is connected to the capital of Sikkim, Gangtok by a metalled road. Gyalshing or Geyzing is one of the tourist attractions in West Sikkim District. This place is easily accessible from all the places of India.

Location of Gyalshing
Gyalshing is located at 27.28 degree North to 88.27 degree East. It has an average elevation of 823 metres (2700 feet).

Geyzing is also connected to the towns of West Bengal, Darjeeling and Kalimpong via Jorethang, which is one of the popular hill stations. A few kilometres north is the town of Pelling. The town has a large Nepali population, and the Nepali language is the predominant language of the region. The town of Geyzing is situated at an altitude of about 6,500 feet (1,900 m). The town enjoys a temperate climate for most of the year and snow sometimes falls in the vicinity.

History of Gyalshing
Near Geyzing, there is an ancient town of Sikkim called Yuksom. Yuksom is the ancient capital of Sikkim built in the year 1642. Other attractions include Pemyangtse Monastery built in the year 1640, reputed to be Sikkim`s oldest and Khecheopalri Lake which as legend has it where not a leaf is allowed to float on the surface. The town is the base for trekking in the Himalayan Mountain Range and professional expeditions to Mount Kanchenjunga or the exploration of Kanchenjunga Peak, which is one of the toughest trek in India.

Education of Gyalshing
Geyzing has a couple of English medium schools including a convent school and a major hospital. The town is coming up with so many educational institutes. One recently established college that is Gyalshing Government College 2011, DIET, schools are there in the vicinity of the town of Gyalshing.

Demography of Gyalshing
According to the Population Census in the year 2001, Gyalshing had a population of 828. Males constitute 59% of the population and females 41%. Gyalshing has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 68%. In Gyalshing, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
