Grandmother`s Hole Beach

Grand Mother’s Hole Beach is one of the most important tourist attraction sites in Goa.

Grandmother`s Hole Beach, GoaGrandmothers Hole beach which is also known as Japanese Garden beach, located in Goa, one of the Indian state in the west, is popular to the local and international tourist for the beach"s of pristine beauty and the splendid night life.

Grandmother"s Hole beach is a tiny pristine virgin beach near the city of Vasco (Vasco Da Gama). Grandmother"s Hole beach gets its name from a nearby cave which is called Grandmother"s Hole. Grandmothers Hole beach itself is tiny and is bounded on both ends with hills and rocks with a minuscule sandy extension.

Grandmother"s Hole beach is a clean and virgin beach. This sea beach of beautiful scenery is the centre of attraction to the tourist. But this virgin sea beach is unknown to the common tourists. That is why; this beach becomes a photographer"s choice.

A small Hindu temple dedicated to Mahadeva and Goddess Durga, is located along the way down to the beach. There on the cliffs above the beach is the Japanese garden, which quite surprisingly does not live up to its East Asian name at all. Contrastingly the Japanese garden looks to be a typical well maintained garden in India with roses being the most common plant here.

The cliffs surrounding Grandmothers Hole beach once had the walls of the Marmagao fort along its edges. Today most of the walls have gnarled away with time and one can barely find significant traces of a fort here.

Grandmother"s Hole Beach is about 3 kilometres away from the city of Vasco near the Marmagoa Port Trust housing colony at the Vasco Sada Headland area. The beach can be reached by local buses which ply from Vasco to the area at regular interval. A Coastal Defence Battery is also located close to the beach.

The entrance to Grandmothers Hole beach is next to the Japanese garden. A flight of steps lead down to the beach along a winding path which goes through a stone arch at the base of the cliffs. Along the path down to the beach a small path branches off to the right and leads to the temple. At the base of the cliffs one can find some huts in which some migrant workers live.
