Coins of Puru Gupta

The obverse of this type of coins represents a king armed with bow and arrow and the word `Puru` is written. On the reverse side the word `Vikram` is inscribed.

According to historian Prakasaditya type also belongs to Puru Gupta. These coins are preserved in the British museum. The obverse of these coins represents a king seated on the horse and having a sword in his right hand and the horse is shown galloping after a lion. On the right side of the coin there is a dhavaja, on the reverse of the coin a figure of Lakshmi seated on the lotus can be found who is having a lotus in her left hand.

It cannot be definitely said as to whether this type of coins belonged to Puru Gupta or not.

Weight of Gupta coins
Different Gupta kings issued coins of different weights. The coins of Chandra Gupta I weigh 119 grains, coins of Kach 116 grains and coins of Samudra Gupta 118 grains as well. The coins of Chandra Gupta II weigh 121, 125 and 132 grains and those of Kumar Gupta I weigh 124 to 129 grains. The coins of Skanda Gupta weigh 130 to 144 grains. The coins of Puru Gupta and Narsing Gupta weigh 145 and 146 grains respectively.
