Chetan Baboor, the Indian Tennis player was born on 22nd April in 1974 and belonged to the Babooru Kamme community of Holenarasipura, Karnataka. Born in North India, Chetan Baboor stayed in the southern and western parts of the country too. At an early stage, at the age of sixteen Chetan became a member of the senior national table tennis. Chetan stayed for a considerable period of time in Sweden and France. He was employed in the Indian Oil as a mechanical engineer. Being a keen learner, Chetan was known as a person who wages major interest in all the world championships.
Chetan Baboor remained the winner of national title four times. He won two doubles gold in Commonwealth Championship and in 1997 he was revered by the Arjuna Award. Later, Chetan moved to the U.S. to pursue a Master of Business Administration degree in the Thunderbird University, Arizona, in 2001.
The trophies speak volume about the success and achievements of Chetan Baboor, the well admired tennis player of India. He bagged four men`s national singles titles, two Commonwealth gold for doubles and runner up in the Asia Cup and Commonwealth Championships. Chetan Baboor, though an Indian player, was revered and praised for his versatility as a player in both national and international circuits. In nineties, Baboor spent about six years in Swedish club Kalmar. During his professional life, at the time of his belonging to Kalmar, a top division club, he played at the side of some legendary figures of tennis like Jan Ove Waldner. Being experienced of playing with important tennis advocators as Jan Ove Waldner in the Kalmer Club, Chetan Baboor has honed his skills a lot.
In 1992 in Barcelona, in1996 Atlanta and in 2000 Sydney Olympics Chetan Baboor was selected to represent India and in several World championships, Commonwealth, South Asian Federation and Asian championships. Between 1998 and 2000, Baboor was in the midst of a purple patch. At the time he vanquished Chinese 1996 Olympics singles gold medallist Liu Guoliang and Ma Wenge and the 1996 Olympics bronze medallist Jorg Rosskopf of Germany. Chetan was the only person in India, who set the record of winning the national championship four times. In Commonwealth Championships, Chetan earned the fame of being the winner of two gold medals.
