Chandubi Lake, a natural lake, is located in the Kamrup District of Assam at a distance of 64 km from Guwahati. Surrounded by Assam and Meghalaya, the lake is situated at the foot of Garo Hills. The area around the lake is encompassed by deep forest and small villages. During winter season, Chandubi Lake attracts several migratory birds. Chandubi Lake was formed on 12th June 1897 during the Assam earthquake. According to the locals, Chandubi was a hilly area with five mountains, which had sunken into the ground and formed the lake. The name Chandubi has been derived from the words "Chand" meaning five and "Dubi" meaning sinking in Khasi language. The lake is 8 meters deep and the area is around 448 hectares. Chandubi Falls near the lake is another scenic beauty of this place. Chandubi Lake is considered to be one of the popular spots for tourism.
Tourism in Chandubi Lake
The local Rabha community has made the lake even more popular among tourists with boat rides. Several resorts have come up to make this place stronger for tourism. A tribal village is located near to the lake, a trip to which is also part of the tourism. Chandubi festival is the major festival of this lake, which is held in the first week of January every year. This festival exhibits the traditional dance of the locals along with their traditional food.

The best time to visit the lake is from October to March. Kendukona Railway Station and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport are the nearest to visit the Chandubi Lake. National Highway 31 and 37 are the major ones to reach this destination via road.
