Candolim Beach is located 15 kms north of Panaji, the capital of Goa. The beach is a part of a long extension of beach coastline along the Arabian Sea that begins at Fort Aguada and ends at Chapora Beach. It is thus considered as the flagship beach of Goa. This place is also famous as it is the birth place of Abba Faria, considered to be one of Goan freedom fighters and the Father of Hypnotism.
The white sandy Candolim beach, beautified by the scrub-covered dunes, has been a major attraction for the tourists visiting this place. The beach is quiet and calm as compared to the other crowded beaches of Goa and looks charming with the bountiful beauty of nature as well. The Candolim beach offers various water-sports activities, like parasailing, water-skiing, wind surfing and so on. Fishing is an activity for those who love peaceful and quiet environment. Yoga and meditation has also gained popularity here because of the idyllic atmosphere. Special beach excursions are also arranged in Candolim beach where interested tourists are taken right to the core of the sea from where they get a glimpse of the enchanting sunset. Apart from the beautiful beach of Candolim there are other tourist spots to visit in the close vicinity. The Aguada Fort is the greatest attraction of the Candolim Beach .The fort was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century for fortification against the Dutch and the Maratha invaders. Along with the fort, the church, lighthouse and the garrison of the Aguada Jail have also been parts of tourist attractions.
