Bhanr Nautch is also called as the "buffoon"s dance". This ancient art form was once much admired in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. Bhanr Nautch was held in high esteem by the aristocratic members of the society in Uttar Pradesh so much so that even the buffoons were permanently kept as members of the household of the rich nawabs. The dance didn"t have much artistic quality attached to it but it was solely performed for enjoyment. The dance can be considered as rhythmic exhibition of horse-play and foolery, with much wit and jousting. This form of dance later became so degenerate that it gradually ceased to be performed.
