Agonda Beach

Agonda Beach is the prime tourist attraction in Goa, located in the Canacona taluka.

Agonda Beach, GoaAgonda Beach is located in the southernmost Canacona taluka of Goa, an Indian state with innumerable beaches. Agonda Beach is a great spot for sunbathing, relaxing and swimming, with still relatively few tourists. Agonda beach is very simple and natural in topography.

Agonda Beach is a nice long pristine stretch of beach. The waters of Agonda Beach are ideal for swimming, or if one needs to party sometimes. One can easily travel from Agonda Beach to Palolem Beach, which is just 15 minutes by motorbike, a 10 km ride.

Agonda Beach basically has one long road parallel to the beach line, most rooms and bungalows for rent are located either between them or on the opposite side of the road.

In the centre of Agonda Beach, there is a church named Agonda Church and there lies a local school to the right of it. To the left, this bigger road crosses the village until the beach road joins it near the river mouth and northern end of the beach, then continues on in the direction of Cabo da Rama. Dabolim airport in Goa is about a 90-minutes drive away.

Agonda beach is famous as a Ridley turtle nesting site. These animals are belonging from the endangered species. Cabo de Rama is the beautiful fort located in Agonda Beach. This fort was built by the Maratha king Sambhaji Raje. Nova Conquesta added this part of Goa in Portuguese colony and named it Cabo De Rama. Agonda beach is the healthy spot for one who wants to do meditation and yoga. A meeting place for spiritually interested people, Agonda beach is the best place for Samdarshi`s mediation. An Ashram is located in Agonda beach, where one can get solace through mediation. Every year, workshops on meditation and yoga are conducted during winter.

Visiting Information
Agonda Beach is reachable by road. It will take 15 minutes from the more famous, Palolem beach, which is another tourist attraction site. It is also accessible through railways. Agonda Beach is only a few kilometres from Canacona station, although main train services stop at Margao station, about an hour`s drive away. There are regular buses departing from the Canacona bus station for Agonda Beach which will take at about 20 minutes. The buses from Chaudi and Margao are available few times a day. From Canacona railway, it is about 1km to the Canacona bus stand, where one can get a bus which will take about 9 km to Agonda Beach. The buses for Agonda Beach will leave to go back every 30 minutes from the other side of the road to where one gets dropped off. Taxis and auto rickshaws can be taken as a more comfortable and quicker alternative to the public bus.
