The institute is located at Balagangadharanatha Nagar (B. G. Nagar), in the city of Bangalore and it was established in the year 1986. The main objective of the institution was to render social, charitable, educational and medical services blended with spiritualism to the people of Karnataka. The institute is considered to be one of the most important rural educational institutions in the state that is catering to the medical needs of the rural populace.

The Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Bangalore is mainly catering its services in preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative domains. The institute also provides teaching and training the students at both the Undergraduate (UG) of MBBS and Post Graduate (PG) levels. The AIMS, Bangalore is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and by the General Medical Council of UK. The institute is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, located in Bangalore, Karnataka. Being managed by Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust (Regd.), the institute is entirely dedicated to social welfare.

The Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Bangalore offers many courses in different fields of medical science to the students of Karnataka. Apart from the main undergraduate course of MBBS, the institute also offers several postgraduate courses to the students. The PG courses offered by AIMS, Bangalore include MD in Medicine, Paediatrics, OBG, Radio Diagnosis, Anaesthesiology, Community Medicine, and Biochemistry; MS in Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Ophthalmology. The Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Bangalore has recently introduced a telemedicine Project named Medvarsity for the benefit of the students. The project has been introduced to keep in pace with technology for teaching and training for the students. This institution was first in Karnataka to have introduced this on Line Education project, where the students will have the interaction, discussion with audiovisual presentations of various aspects of medicine through computers. The institution is also connected with some o the leading Medical Colleges of India and abroad through this online project. There is a well equipped hospital associated to the AIMS, Bangalore named the Adichunchanagiri Hospital and Research Centre (AH & RC). The hospital is helping the institute both in offering different courses and also in providing treatment to the people of Karnataka.
