Abul Hashim was a well known Indian politician and was an Indian freedom fighter who fought against the British administration and participated in the Indian freedom struggle. He was born on 27 January 1905 in Kashiara village in the district of Burdwan of West Bengal state. He successfully completed his graduation from Burdwan Raj College in the year 1928, which was later affiliated with the University of Calcutta. Later Hashim continued his studies in Law and acquired a law degree in the year 1931 from the Calcutta University. Eventually, Abul Hashim started practicing law at the court of Burdwan.
Political Career of Abul Hashim
Abul Hashim actively participated in the election to the Bengal Legislative Council in the year 1936. He also took part in the All India Muslim League conference that was held at Allahabad in the year 1938. Hashim later took active participation in the Lahore conference held by the Muslim League in the year 1940. Later in 1944, Abul Hashim was appointed as the General Secretary of the party. He maintained a political propinquity with Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, who was one of the principal founding fathers of the Dominion of Pakistan after the partition of India. Abul Hashim effectively led the Muslim League Party through the election in the year 1946 and aided it to win the election. Abul Hashim later participated in the United Bengal Movement in the year 1947, but the movement was severely opposed by the Muslim League party. He also became a member of the Khelafat Rabbani Party.
Later Life of Abul Hashim
After the country achieved Independence from the rule of the British Empire in India, the nation was divided into the Union of India and the Dominion of Pakistan through the Partition of India. Abul Hashim was appointed as the parliamentary leader of the opposition in West Bengal Provincial Assembly. In the year 1950, Hashim went to East Bengal and eventually settled in Dhaka.
Literary Work of Abul Hashim
Abul Hashim wrote a number of books in Bengali and English languages. Some of most noteworthy literary works include "The Creed of Islam", "In Retrospection", "Let Us Go to War" and "As I See It".
Personal Life of Abul Hashim
Abul Hashim started to experience health related problems in 1940. He lost his eyesight became blind by the year 1950. However he remained active in the political scenario and was appointed as the Director of the Islamic Academy in the year 1960. Hashim died on 5 October 1974 at the age of 69 years.
