The pouch of the Civet Cat (Viverra Zibetha) contains an unctuous odorous secretion which is extracted and used in perfumery. The pouch together with the secretion contained in it, are used by native physicians in scenting medicated oils.
Civet oil is also valued for its medicinal uses which include the reduction of perspiration, a cure for some skin disorders and also claims of aphrodisiac powers.
