Derivation of Santhome Beach
The beach gets its name from Saint Thomas, one of the disciples of Jesus Christ. In the early era, an apostle was martyred in the city of Chennai and his tomb was placed in Mylapore. Later, a church, now known as the San Thome Basilica, was constructed over the tomb.

The temperatures drop down to approximately 18 degrees at night and the days are comparatively pleasant. This is the best time for sightseeing and enjoying beach activities.
